Whether you’re investing in an artificial Christmas tree (Balsam Hill has the most realistic we’ve seen!), or you prefer the authenticity of a real tree, it’s nothing without a little decoration.
So, in this blog, you’ll find tons of decorated Christmas trees to inspire your festive interior this year.
Take a pew, grab a hot choc or mulled wine, and let’s dive right in!
Decorated Christmas Trees
Magnificently Miniature
For those who sway towards muted festive decor, a miniature tree is a fab choice. Perfect for placing on your entryway table, kitchen island, or living room cabinet, they may be dinky but they’ll certainly steal the spotlight in their own way.
Rustic Touch
Why not keep it natural with wooden ornaments? Leaning into that Pinterest-worthy rustic vibe, this is certainly one of our favourite ways to create decorated Christmas trees with a little country charm.
Novelty
We don’t know about you, but we’re obsessed with novelty tree decorations. They’re fun and fresh, helping you embrace a modern, care-free decor style.
If you’re in the UK, John Lewis has the most magical collection of gingerbread men, crowned birds, purple dinos, and everything in between. Otherwise, Etsy is the place to be (run, don’t walk!)!
All Wrapped Up in a (King-Size) Bow
Decorated Christmas trees with ribbon will always be a classic, and we love this OTT modern twist. Start by adding a bow to the tip of your tree, and finish by placing twists of thick ribbon from top to bottom.
TOP TIP: Coordinate the ribbon on your gifts with the ribbon on your tree for a matchy-matchy aesthetic.
Royal Blue
There’s no doubt royal blue baubles bring an undeniable air of opulence to your Christmas tree. The trick is to keep them to a minimum, matching with plenty of ornate gold ornaments to create a stunning two-tone look.
Precious Pearls
Effortlessly glamorous, pearls instantly add an expensive touch to your Christmas tree. Whether you opt for draped ribbon pearls or find ornaments with subtle jewelled details, prepare to upscale your festive setup with plenty of pearls in tow.
Old Money Style
The iconic old money style, AKA “quiet luxury”, has undoubtedly blown up this year. A style representing inherited wealth and class, it’s surprisingly easy to add this kind of opulence to your festive decor.
Simply pick smaller, more understated ornaments and pair them with plenty of warm lights and beading.
Bauble Overload
Anyone else guilty of buying waaaay too many Christmas baubles? Then there’s only one thing you need to do – turn your questionable spending habits into the most outrageous yet completely justifiable display*.
*We cannot be held responsible for spending all your money.
Hand-Crafted Ornaments
Feeling crafty? Adding handmade ornaments to your tree gives your festive decor a uniquely personal edge.
The Sculpd Pottery Kits are a brilliant way to create your own ceramic ornaments. Simply create the shape you want, let it air dry, and finish with gloss or challenge your artistry skills by adding coloured paints!
We’ve already posted about how to make the cutest DIY Christmas baubles from real pinecones – have a look!
Let the Lights Do the Talking
If, like many, the painstaking process of adding pretty baubles to your tree causes much more stress than festive cheer – don’t do it.
There are quite literally zero rules when it comes to decorating for Christmas. If you’re feeling like breaking the rules, let the focus be on the lights. Go crazy by transforming your tree into the most mesmerising light show your neighbours have ever seen.
Snow White Ornaments
Clean, fresh, and understated, white ornaments effortlessly complement the rich, forest green tones of your Christmas tree.
TOP TIP: Pick out ornaments with diverse shapes and textures, including glitters, sateen, and wood. This helps minimalistic decorated Christmas trees look more intentional, as opposed to throwing a 25 pcs bauble box at your tree and calling it a day.
Tinsel Town
Anyone else met with an overwhelming wave of nostalgia at the very thought of tinsel?
Looking back at cherished photo albums from Christmases gone by, glittery tinsel was all the rage. And although many consider it old-fashioned, we think it’s a fabulous way to upscale your tree, transporting you right back to the good ol’ days.
Green on Green on Green
Some of the most beautifully decorated Christmas trees are often those that are a little “out of the box” – like an all-green tree.
For this subtly unusual design to work, choose ornaments that contrast slightly with the natural hues of your tree, giving you gentle pops of colour in the most intriguing way.
Simple Scandi Style
Minimal and neutral – that’s how to create that sought-after Scandi style. But more importantly, it’s alllllll about the tree. Stick to a real tree for that perfectly imperfect shape, fake it ‘til you make it with a faux alternative.
Citrus Burst
If baking is your forte, it’s time to head to the kitchen. Adding dried fruits, such as lemons, oranges, and even limes not only adds a pop of natural colour to your decor, but brings a refreshing scent!
Baking Method:
- Place your unpeeled, thinly sliced fruit onto a baking tray and bake on a high heat until dry and crisp.
- Leave the slices to cool on the tray.
- Carefully puncture a whole beneath each slice and attach a ribbon of your choice before adding to your Christmas tree!
Snowflake Garland
Listen – there are zero rules when creating beautifully decorated Christmas trees. So, why not be daring and add a snowflake garland to your tree?
Red and Gold
Oozing timeless luxury, red and gold will always be a classic way to style your Christmas tree. Whether you prefer quirky novelty ornaments, love a little ribbon, or would rather keep it classy with beautifully distinctive baubles, your tree will certainly be a conversation starter.
Berry Red
Going for a timeless vibe? Berries have long been synonymous with Christmastime, cropping up in our favourite home decor stores year after year.
Plus, rich red tones will never ever look out of place during the festive season – that’s a promise.
Going Crackers
We know this is definitely a love it or hate it concept. But it provides an aesthetic way to store your crackers until the big day – simply wedge each one atop your branches for a uniquely decorated Christmas tree!
Fancy Florals
Thinking of adding decorated Christmas trees to your bedrooms? Floral ornaments bring a soft, warm, and feminine vibe, and allow for perfect coordination with your decor.
Rainbow Vibes
We must admit – so many decorated Christmas trees look exactly the same. So, why not go against the grain with a rainbow tree? Bold, bright, and daring, consider it a must for those who aren’t afraid to experiment with colourful interiors.
Wooden Beads
One word: obsessed. Modern farmhouse decor has really come into its own over the past couple of years, and we simply can’t get enough of this farmhouse-inspired tree. Pair your wooden bead garland with handcrafted ornaments for a truly rustic look.
Multicoloured Lights
We don’t love multicoloured lights at Christmastime (warm white bulbs simply have us in an inescapable chokehold).
But we admit, rainbow colours create a playful, vibrant look in any space – especially the kids’ room!
Black Baubles
It’s moody, it’s sultry, it’s chic, and it’s being added to our Pinterest board immediately. If you’re not obsessed with this drool-worthy aesthetic, we get it, but festive decor doesn’t get more sophisticated than jet black baubles.
Dripping in Gold
We will not hear it otherwise – you cannot go wrong with a gold-themed Christmas tree. Radiating opulence, the trick is to pick ornaments with a little character, as opposed to spherical baubles.
Trust us, with a solid colour tree, it’s alllll about adding visual appeal with plenty of intriguing textures and distinctive shapes.
Crystal Clear
Don’t worry – we’re not suggesting you decorate your tree with real crystals. For a boujee yet budget-friendly tree, pick out delicate glass ornaments to mimic the expensive feel of our fave gems.
Standing Tall
Working with a small space? You can still have fun decorating during the festive season – you just need to get a little creative.
Look for trees that are tall and skinny as opposed to shorter and wider. Ofc, you may not be able to fit so many baubles on the branches, but it’ll still look just as dazzling adorned with glistening fairy lights.
Tabletop Tree
Whether you’re living in a pint-sized apartment or planning a seasonal switcheroo for your cramped work desk, decorated Christmas trees are never not an option. A tabletop tree is our go-to, allowing you to add a generous sprinkle of festive cheer to your tiny space.
Hessian Heaven
If natural touches are your kinda thing, adorning your tree with hessian ribbon will complement your interior perfectly. You can either wrap the roll around horizontally or vertically.
Match it with a hessian tree skirt for a coordinated look.
Snow-Tipped (AKA Flocked) Tree
Don’t want the faff of decorating for hours on end? We know not everybody is quite as obsessed as we are when it comes to embracing the festive season.
So, investing in a snow-tipped tree is our #1 tip for low-effort decorating, as you won’t need half as many baubles to create that wow factor. Even better – you can buy them pre-lit!
Oversized Ornaments
You know what they say, go big or go home, right? There’s not much to say about this daring decor, except it’ll certainly help you strike up a conversation or two.
Pretty Bows
If you’re a sucker for cutesy, feminine decor, adding pretty bows to your branches is a must for your tree. It’s giving Chanel (minus the price tag).
Drenched in Lametta
A festive decor staple back in the 1950s, Lametta is simply tiny, sparkling strands of foil. Invented to mimic icicles, it adds an unusual aesthetic to your Christmas tree when draped over the branches. But now it offers more nostalgia than anything else, helping you create an authentically retro vibe.
Bronze
As much as we love gold at Christmastime, it’s been done a gazillion times before. Adding bronze ornaments to your tree still creates an opulent feel, whilst introducing a richer, more sultry and understated colour palette.
Plenty of Pinecones
This one’s for all the Autumn girlies and guys. If (like us) you just can’t let go of the cosy fall vibes, then don’t – add a sprinkle of the season to your Christmas tree with pine cones!
Wicker Skirt
On the run up to the big day, we’re betting you don’t have too many gifts under your tree. And whilst this is perfectly okay, it just means the base of your tree is exposed.
So give it a little something-something by adding a wicker tree skirt!
Personalised with Polaroids
For this unique idea, take cherished polaroid pictures and clip them onto your tree with teeny tiny pegs. You can either decorate as you go throughout the month, adding snaps from recent Christmas events and family get-togethers. Or, use photos from previous holidays!
A+ for creativity, don’t you think?
Fancy Ferns
We’re always taking inspo from the outside world to style our interiors. So, why should our Christmas tree be any different? Leafy ferns help you lean into the wintery vibes whilst adding undeniable class to your decor.
Strawberry Frosting
In the year of the i-c-o-n-i-c Barbie movie, it’s only right to add a splash of pink to your interior. And if you keep it low-key, it can look more classy than tacky.
Disco Ball
We know, 2021 was the year of the disco ball, but we’re still so obsessed with this bold trend. Serving all the retro vibes we could ever need, mirror baubles add a playful edge to your tree whilst helping to brighten up any room!
Candy Cane Crazy
Need we say anymore? Love it or hate it, the striking red and white stripes of candy cane ornaments make for the most extravagantly decorated Christmas trees.
Not convinced? We’re almost certain this youthful decor would add a little seasonal pizzazz to all-white interiors, helping you transform your space into a super sweet winter wonderland.
Pleasing Pastels
If you loooove colour but lean toward soft, calming colour schemes throughout your home, a pastel Christmas tree is our go-to. No matter the palette you choose, we guarantee it’ll complement your understated interior.
Traditional Tartan
As the cooler months start creeping in, we see more and more tartan goods taking centre stage on shop shelves. It’s safe to say this traditional seasonal pattern has everybody in a chokehold – and we’re certain it’ll never look outdated.
So why not add tartan ribbon to your tree? Or, you can replace the strings on your ornaments with a thin tartan ribbon for a more subtle look.
Barely There
Unlike those who go all-out with a 7ft, super bushy, pre-lit Christmas tree, we know not everyone wants a showy display, and that’s totally A-OK.
Keep it low-key with a twiggy tree, allowing you to embrace the festive season without the fuss.
Living in a (Festive) Bubble
Thanks to their ever-changing colours, iridescent baubles mimic the delicate look of bubbles. Subtly striking, this is definitely one of the most unique ideas for decorating your tree!
